Writing Inspiration in Unexpected Places

I want to share with you one of my favorite sources for writing inspiration – paper! But not just any paper, wrapping paper from Paper Source! I’ll explain…

A trip to San Francisco is incomplete (for me) without a trip to Paper Source. On my last trip, I met a friend for dinner and she asked, “What did you do today?” And the conversation went like this:

“I went to Paper Source, and Tacolicious for lunch.”

“What else?”

“That’s it. I spent four hours at Paper Source.” I answered.

“What? How do you spend four hours at Paper Source?” She replied in disbelief.

“How do you NOT spend four hours at Paper Source?” I wanted to know.

This store has paper. Lots of paper. Paper to be coordinated. Ribbons and string to mix and match. Envelopes and stationery in every color and size, stickers and stamps (the fourth grader in me loves this section).

And then there is my absolute favorite part of the store – THE WALL OF PAPER!! Wrapping paper with dots, glitter, texture, design and paper with fun and unexpected images like skulls, maps, and unicorns. These images give me writing inspiration and content ideas for handmade accordion books and journals.

And that’s it, my friend! That’s how four hours pass in a snap! All of these materials and tools give me writing inspiration for books I want to create. I also know that when I show kids this paper, they too will come up with so many amazing ideas for their books. Writing inspiration can sometimes come from unexpected places.

Good luck on getting out of Paper Source in less than four!
